Adding Vintage Clothing to Your Wardrobe

You should decide which look you will be replicating by researching the different fashion eras before you begin buying. Authentic looks do not rely on guess work so this is important. Availability of items and accessories, price, and comfort should all come into play. Another consideration is to find a flattering, age-appropriate look so you do not appear dowdy or as though you were in a costume. You will want to look as though you stepped back in time gracefully. You can visit websites, watch old movies, browse vintage magazines or even ask older people as part of your research.

There are some tricks and caveats to vintage clothing shopping. Sizes of items were smaller years ago and since they do not match todays numbers, bring along a tape measure to compare the actual size to your measurements to insure a good fit if you are unable try on the item. Examine the garments closely for any signs of decomposition of the material, especially at the seams and points of wear as not all vintage clothing has been stored properly.

Colors such as light blue and lavender are prone to fading, so carefully check your piece in bright light to make sure the color has remained even. While it sounds unglamorous, smell the item to make sure it does not have a musty smell which could indicate fabric degeneration and that no moldy smell is adhering to the garment which could be hard to remove and aggravate allergies. Suede, leather and fur items should be examined under the linings to avoid purchasing pieces that are dried out as they will rip very easily. Read the care label on the clothing and if there is none, check with the store or seller about the fabrics qualities such as shrinkage, fabric content, etc.

To keep your clothes in good shape, you may need to give them special handling and not use harsh detergents. Store them properly in a closet on strong hangers. Do not put leathers or suedes in plastic bags since it dries them out. Perfumes and deodorants may leave stain since older fabrics absorb more deeply so apply those carefully.

Part of the fun of recreating an older look is selecting accessories. If you can not find the exact period match, go with items that are modern reproductions or ones made slightly earlier than your era but that harmonize. It is relatively easy to find costume jewelry for your look but shoes can be more difficult. New shoes that are copies of styles from the original era, such as ankle straps and wedges, work well. This hold true for purses too. Do not forget those little touches which include handkerchiefs, gloves, scarves, compacts and hats. Hats were a major fashion statement and will do wonders for making your look authentic. Accessory shopping will allow you to use your creative talents.

Festival Fashion – What to Wear at a Music Festival

The summer months in Britain offer a deluge of music festivals, which are often the saving grace for anyone who can’t find the time or money to organise a trip abroad.

The music – and the general campsite experience – will always deliver the opportunity for a great time; but small details, such as wearing unsuitable clothing, can often put a blot on an otherwise enjoyable occasion. A little planning beforehand should ensure that everything runs smoothly, allowing you to fully embrace the festival spirit.

Checking a weather forecast before packing is always advisable. If it’s going to be a weekend of searing heat you’ll have no use for a stack of jumpers, while if it’s going to be wet the whole time there may be no real need for flip-flops or beach shorts. Packing light is advisable but taking more underwear and socks than you think you’ll need is a good idea, especially if rain is forecast.

Suitable footwear is also vital. Most likely, you’re going to be spending all day in the same pair, so buying new shoes that haven’t been broken in yet isn’t recommended. Obviously, if you’re expecting a lot of rain and mud, wellies are the logical choice.

Looking your best is always important, even at a festival. If you’re camping, you won’t have full length mirrors to check out your style and being able to make a quick getaway from the campsite to the stage is important if you want a good spot at the front. That means having a pre-planned look – either something you’ve worn before or something you’ve bought specially – can give you a head start. With the constant threat of muddy, slippery fields doubled with the inevitable liquids being drank – and thrown – by members of the crowd, your clothes are always at risk. Wearing dark or colourful clothes will help hide any stains that you pick up along the way.

Wearing a hat can help protect you from wet projectiles in the crowd and can also shield you from the elements; whether it’s rain or the sun beating down on you, standing outside all day can leave you open to attack. If hot weather is predicted, it’s always best to also wear suntan lotion and sunglasses. Sporting sunburn is not only uncomfortable, it can also dangerous to your health.

If it is sunny, a T-shirt and a pair of shorts should suffice; but at colder – or wetter – times, wearing additional clothing is required. A light, waterproof jacket is useful but if you forget one then most campsites will sell ponchos. Combat trousers have many pockets, which is handy for storing your festival essentials while taking a jumper to wear at night makes the campsite a bit more comfortable.

Wearing the right festival wear can often make a big difference to your enjoyment of an event; whether that involves swimming in mud, or baking in the sunshine.

Plus Size Men’s Clothing – How To Look Great & Look Slimmer Instantly

If you choose carefully with men’s plus size clothing you can give the impression of knocking off half a stone instantly by simply being careful with the type of clothes you wear.

Men’s plus size clothing can look great, you just need to know how to dress correctly and here some tips to look great.

1. Horizontal Stripes Are A No!

Vertical stripes are a yes.

Why?

Because they draw the eyes downwards, making your silhouette longer and making you look slimmer.

Formally, Pinstripe suits are the perfect, especially paired with a crisp black dress

For casual wear, try to find dark corduroys with slim stripes are also a good option

If you are wearing vertical stripes its fine and if you are not, it’s no stripes at all with this fashion tip.

2. Go Single Breasted

Single breasted jackets always look slimmer than double breasted that focus the eyes at the centre.

Also be careful about the vents at the back of your jacket on.

Stay away from blazers and jackets that are double-vented as this cut will draw attention to your bottom.

Stick to single-vented jackets or jackets without any vents and keep in mind your jacket should always cover your bottom.

4. Watch the Fit

Make sure your wear clothes that fit and you buy the size you are, rather than the size you would like to be.

Tight clothing will make you look ridiculous and show every bulge in more graphic detail.

On the other hand, many men believe baggy clothing will hide their bulges, if their to baggy they will simply make you look much bigger.

The secret to looking slimmer is to choose clothes that are not to tight not to baggy and allow you to feel comfortable and move properly.

5. Go Monochrome

A shirt and trousers in two contrasting colors will draw attention right to the centre where the join is which is your stomach!

Avoid this and go for two similar colors that don’t highlight your middle. For example Black trousers yellow top is a no Dark blue jumper and black trousers is a yes.

In plus size men’s clothing you do not want to draw attention to your middle. Finally,
black is the ultimate color for slimming. If you decide to dress in black make sure you add a splash of color to break up your look

6. Don’t Wear High Neck Jumpers

In men’s plus size clothing high roll or turtle neck jumpers are a no at all costs it will simply make your neck look fatter and give the illusion of a shorter person

V-neck round necks and T-shirts are all good.

These draw the eyes down giving the impression of a sleeker silhouette also, it will give you the illusion of having a longer neck which if you have double chin or large neck will make you look slimmer.

7. Always Use A Belt

A belt will hold your waistline and make it appear slimmer and make sure your trousers hang correctly.

Conversely don’t tighten your belt to hard so you can’t breathe! Your belly will them overhang.

8. Don’t Follow Fashion Blindly

With men’s plus size clothing don’t try and follow fashions simply because you think you should, they wont always suit.

Instead develop your own personal style that makes you look good. The above are just a few tips for wearing men’s plus size clothing and we will discuss more in articles in this series.

Underwear- it matters

There are so many beautiful women out there of all skin types, tones & sizes. We each have our own individuality that makes us unique. Some are good at business, some at baking, others at charity, maybe, and then you have those who focus in on fashion and creativity. But regardless of what you do, we all have an image to uphold, and hopefully, we all have a life outside of ‘what we do’ where our appearance matters, as well.

So, where I am going with all this? Well, if you are going to take the time to look the part for any event, whether it is work, play or a date, please consider all the essentials, and don’t leave out ANYTHING, including what goes on under that fabulous outfit you’re going to wear!

Picture it, she has on a dress that is a perfect color for her skin tone, her make-up is just right, and ‘Oh!’ look at that hair! Then you notice her great shoes and that nice pair of earrings she’s wearing… but then, all of a sudden, as you’re discreetly looking at her and thinking how nice she looks… you focus in on that bulge right around her waistline! How could that be?!? She looks incredible from head to toe, but she forgot about her underclothes?

Oh, poor thing… It’s when I see this happen that I want to go over to her and say, ‘Honey, did you know…, and ‘Let me help you…’. It’s very simple, really, and here are some tips:

• If you are wearing a dress that clings to your body and you must wear hose, then ditch the underwear and wear ONLY hose. The hose should come high enough so there are absolutely NO roles hanging over that you can see. If there are, the hose should be pulled up higher until they completely cover and hold in the roles (sometimes as high as right under your breasts is required). Control top hose are awesome for smoothing and contouring, like the ones offered by Victoria’s Secret and Leggs.

• If you’re going the no hose route with a dress, then wear a pair of underwear that are either ‘barely’ there, or cover all. If they’re ‘barely there’, then please make sure they fit and the waistband is not too tight (again, avoid the bulge attack!). I recommend thongs or g-strings. I know that if you’ve never ventured into the thong arena that you might be thinking ‘how uncomfortable’, but quite the contrary in my opinion, and seems how they’ve been on the market for a while, then I’m not alone!

• If you are going with the cover all option under that dress, then again, please make sure the waist band is high enough to smooth out all lines and eliminate all bulge. The seat should also come low enough to minimize any lines from behind. Some may refer to these as ‘granny panties’ but they look much better under dresses and dress pants, and they have more support to hold you in! If you’re too concerned about your date seeing them, then be sure to have a sexy pair in your purse to throw on after you’re out of the public view! Or, there are a lot of sexy full coverage options nowadays.

• I don’t recommend it, but if you insist on wearing both panties and hose, then please be sure that the waistband of both line up together (to avoid an extra bulge) and all the same rules above apply.

• Some great tips for avoiding panty lines under dress pants include the ‘granny panty’ advice above in addition to smoothing undergarments, like products made by Spanx. These often have a wide waste band and are long enough that there are no lines to be seen whatsoever. They’re even comfortable and often help you lose an inch or two! Bonus!

• I wouldn’t be covering all the bases if I didn’t slip something in here about slips under skirts and dresses. Basically, all the same rules apply to wearing slips; make sure the waistband lines up with the waistband of the hose and/or panties, ensure that it’s pulled up high enough to minimize any bulge, and please ensure that the slip is smooth and seamless under your dress or skirt. Slips can be great when worn correctly, as there are several styles to hold in the tummy and slim down the thighs. Again, bonus!

• If you feel like living a bit dangerously, a good way to minimize panty lines under dress pants is to not wear any! And now, there’s a great product called ‘Nundies’ for you to place in your pants to provide a barrier when you do summon up the courage to go commando. Be free!

• And finally, be sure to take a good look in the mirror before you walk out the door for any occasion!

If you follow the advice above, then you’ll look smoother, thinner, be more comfortable and hopefully, feel more confident! You have to admit, they’re pretty simple pointers to remember and live by. Some great brands of hose and underwear are below. Remember, what goes on under those clothes can make or break the outfit!

The Truth About Comfort Clothing

Does one have to suffer in order to look good?

Look at the painful high heel shoes women wear or smart business shoes that pinch the feet of men.

Guys have it easy as their basic wardrobe consists of t-shirts, jeans, shirts and pants. Some guys, out of vanity may wear tight jeans and tight underwear, which though look great, aren’t healthy for the family jewels.

Women often wear tight clothes that are restrictive and plain uncomfortable. One of the top fashion designers today has most of his clothes cut so tight a woman must wear a corset to get into them. Thankfully, most designers are more sensible.. kinder to women.

Still, you might tolerate a gorgeous outfit that is scratchy because of the wool fabric, or is rather restrictive in the cut, for the sake of looking good.

Actually, you can look great and stay comfortable at the same time. There is that favourite pair of broken in jeans that has been worn and washed until it is so soft and comfortable you’d want to live in them. It hugs your curves yet qualifies as comfort clothing you can wear all the time to places that don’t require a dress code.

There’s the silk top that feels so soft and sensuous against your skin. Great for sensual women.

Need something more formal? How about a jersey dress in a comfy cut that allows you to move freely. Belt it for a shapelier figure. That’s the dress you can wear for most occasions.

For bed time, there are tight, corset-like naughty lingerie that can get really uncomfortable. There are those body shaping shapewear that are restrictive and, though not as bad as the corsets women once wore, are still rather uncomfortable to the uninitiated.

Then there are the sheer silk shirts that you can wear on their own as sleep shirts which are more comfy but for comfort clothing, nothing beats a favourite cotton t-shirt that is soft, cuddly and all out comforting. Great when you are down or just want to be comforted.

Pair that with a super comfortable pair of pants you can sleep in, which are less restrictive than your favourite jeans. Pajama pants come to mind. There are the colorful, cartoon cotton pants that are cute and so wonderful to sleep in and there are the elasticized waist or drawstring waist pants that though roomy and loose, look good enough to be seen out in. Depending on the level of comfort you want and the image you’d want to portray, I’d say you get them both.

Why torture yourself to look great. Stick to comfortable clothing and look effortlessly gorgeous.

Skate Clothes For Toddlers And Kids

Are you an adult who has a passion for professional skateboarding? For so long, this has been largely considered a youth sport only. Those times are past now that the original skateboarders, the baby boomers, have grown up. Skateboarding is the sort of thing that one has to invest years into to become really good at it. After such an investment of time, it’s not something that you can just put behind you. Thus, today we have a world full of skateboarders over the age of twenty-one. If there is one thing that a long-term skateboarder learns, it is that learning the art of being a good boarder requires practice, skill, patience and determination. As current parents, the old skateboarders have begun to realize that these are all positive traits that could only help their children as they grown. With that said, many skater parents are teaching their children how to skateboard. The only difficult part of teaching a child to skateboard is in that first few months. The tricky aspect is actually getting the child to be interested in skateboarding. If your first attempt at getting your child interested is putting him on a board, then you will likely fail as the first time he or she falls off and gets a scrape, they will lose all interest. Children think on a basic level. Basic instinct tells them that if it hurts, don’t do it. So how can you bypass this initial fear? You have to get them interested in skateboarding early on in life, before they ever actually set foot on a board. Take them to competitions.

Hang posters of skateboarding celebrities on their walls. Buy them skateboarding video games. Another very effective option is skate clothes for toddlers and kids. If you surround someone with something in the early stages of life, the interest forms with the personality. Therefore, if a child grows up wearing skateboarding clot hing, then that child will likely develop an interest at a very early age. Another positive aspect of skateboarding clothes is that, for some reason, other children always think that skateboarding is the coolest sport around. If your child shows up on that first day of school with a skateboarding shirt on, he or she will instantly be considered a cool kid to hang around with, thus having instant popularity.

Summer Baby Clothes

Summer baby clothes are designed to keep the baby cool and comfortable during the warm and hot days. The most sensible baby clothes for summer wear are lightweight, light-colored cotton onesies. They are an excellent substitute to baby pants and shirts and will rarely cause irritation, rashes, or itching.

Parents should opt for baby clothes that are easy to change and simple to wear and remove in hot, sticky weather conditions. Babies should be dressed in the most comfortable materials that will maintain appropriate temperature. Avoid dressing babies in heavy summer clothes or wrapping them in warm blankets. Tightly woven fabrics are more protective than loose weaves.

Choose baby clothes made from natural fibers, rather than manmade materials. This is because manmade fibers don’t breathe as well as natural fibers and can be uncomfortably warm, especially in summer. Keep the baby’s skin covered as much as possible because the skin’s sun protection system isn’t entirely developed yet; this can cause the skin to burn more easily in babies. Long pants, long-sleeved shirts, socks, and brimmed hats to avoid sunburn and sun glare are the best outfits for hot conditions. Chemical-free sunscreen ointments or lotions can be applied to the baby’s body, particularly on the arms and legs, where the sun’s rays will probably directly hit.

For those hot summer months, parents will certainly need to stock the child’s wardrobe with plenty of baby summer apparel. These summer baby clothes are available in individual pieces or matching outfits, and the price range varies greatly. Baby stores feature the cutest styles and the most appropriate baby summer apparel to combat outside heat. Parents can also shop for their favorite designer’s summer baby clothes, by brand, size, or gender over the Internet.

Cool Tips for Summer Dressing

With the on-set of the fun filled summer months it’s also time to refresh our wardrobes with clothes that are more casual, colourful, light and fun to wear. The hot summer sun and the holiday mood that sets in during this season require a complete new look and feel. Your summer clothing should be such that it makes you feel lighter, cooler and definitely younger than ever. Lets now check out on the latest trends this summer and find out what’s really in this season.

Summer Clothing

Fashion is all about clothes! Infact, to be more precise, it is about comfortable clothes. Anything that makes you conscious and squirmy is just not the right fashion thing for you. The way you dress up, what you wear and more importantly how you carry yourself in the outfit are the essential factors in any dressing. Choosing the right kind of dressing for yourself during the hot months is again a little different than any other season. Summers demand you to be comfortable and cool; therefore it is very important that apart from being stylish and trendy you must also stay comfortable in whatever you are wearing.

The summers are hot months when you generally tend to sweat a lot and feel irritable. Therefore wearing light clothes that are easy to manage and can absorb sweat are the best suitable options for the summers. Experimenting with colours and patterns is something you can easily do during these hot days. Starting from short printed skirts, loose string quarter pants teamed with a cool cut-sleeves tops or a body hug tee can make you stay cool and yet trendy this summer. Sarongs or long skirts teamed with hip-touching tops is something that will look good on those who are willing to hide the extra flab as the dress stylishly this summer. For an evening dress this summer, try out knee-length back open dresses, or formal pants worn in soft colours with a deeper shade of shirts teamed with a collar scarf.

The in-colours for clothes this season are all shades of pastel and earthy colours as light colours suit best during the summer seasons. Pinks, turquoise, sea greens and sunny yellows are also in these days.

Summer Accessories

It is a general trend to match accessories according to your attire. Accessories are known to accentuate the looks of any dress. Some prefer to go the traditional way and co-ordinate everything from head to toe; this looks decent enough and gives the perfect conventional look but only if done in the right way as it also has the risk of draining out the entire effort to wane. Similar is the case with those who like to go the other way round. Experimenting with wild and unconventional looks is a big risk in it’s own and have full chances of washing out the whole look. Some of the biggest fashion fiasco that people often make is- overdoing stuffs. For instance, if you are wearing a hot pink outfit for a summer evening and decide to team it up with matching purse, sandals, jewellery, and makeup too, it sure will not be too appealing rather there will be a complete goof-up. First it is very important to wear colours that are suitable for the occasion, season and definitely the time of the day. While co-ordination is good and so is experimentation, it is always advised to stay in safe boundaries and not to over emphasize on any part of your dressing.

Summer Makeup

Fashion divas and makeup artists consider the summers to be the worst months for makeup. It is difficult to keep the makeup on during the summers due to excessive heat and sweat, and more over it also tends to react with your skin. On exposure to the harmful rays of the summer sun the skin tends to burn out causing inflammation and ugly irruptions. Thus, keep your make to the bare minimum; make use of water- resistant products that will not wash out with sweat giving you an ugly smudgy look. More than anything else, what is most important during the summer months is to keep the skin clean, healthy and protected from the heat of the sun. Drink a lot of liquids, and eat a lot of fruits to keep you cool and rocking during the summers.

Thus, chill out completely this summer by just taking a little care of your dressing and bask in the warmth of happiness as you see eyes turning on to you.
